Set design....

Not many of us photographers think twice about where we pose our subjects.... Set design is a large portion of fashion photography.  Take a look at some of the major magazines and how they put together some of their backgrounds.  Not all the backgrounds are simple white or black!

<>

It is amazing to think that there is a profession devoted to the set design...

I challenge all our photographers to think outside the box (ie.. beach shots) and look around you.  What is different?  What has isolated color? What would a model look like in front of that?

Near Far Photo Meeting

So we have all seen the stunning images of the fields of wild flowers with the gorgeous mountains in the background and thought how do they do it?

A true inspiration Jennifer Wu

In reality the near far technique seems stunningly simple but complex in theory.  Some even say they don't have to do much to get the long depth of field.  But is it tack sharp from edge to edge?  The process to create stunning images such as this one is called Hyperfocal Photography.  Come and meet up with us and learn how to create similar images!  If you have a smart phone with access to App store you can prepare by downloading the Depth of Field Calculator App.  The equipment list for this months shoot is pretty short bring your Camera, wide angle lens, and your tripod.  The wider the angle the more fun it will be!  Other items that may enhance the shoot would be polarizers, neutral density filters, and split neutral density filters.

When?  Sunday January 30th at 4pm
Where?  "H" Bay
Isn't Google maps GREAT!

Now just as a friendly reminder!   We are now sponsored by Smug Mug (and we are loving it), our new sponsor requires that we use this friendly forum to notify our club members of upcoming events.  So please, please visit the Meet Up page and create an account then link to our photo club!

New Year's Resolutions

How many of us have thought about over-zealous New Year's Resolutions?  I know I have set some crazy ones that only lasted days and even hours before.  I have always romanticized about doing a 365 project.  I came across a 365 project couple years back done by Lauren Lemon a interesting photographer I came across on Flickr.  Now one can say how do you do a 365?  Is it hard?  What do you have when your done?  I found this simple website that actually helps you set up your own 365!  You don't even need a nice camera, you can take the images from your cell phone. And when your done you can get a book of all your images in succession or prints.  The overwhelming thought behind doing a 365 is pushing photography to the front of your daily life and constantly improving it.  If you are already a prolific shooter you may already take photos every day.  Lucky you!  Maybe you should do a 365 that are ALL self portraits, or beautiful shots of the sky with clouds.  So do you think you may be up for a challenge?
